Myanmar Tragedy - SPUR NSW gears up to help the needy

SPUR, NSW has offered to accept donations in Australia to be remitted fully to Red Lotus, Colombo for undertaking immediate humanitarain assistance in Burma. Similar collections are planned in other overseas countries where Sri Lankan expatriates reside.

Myanmar has been friend of Sri Lanka for centuries and the has helped immensely in the perpetuation of Buddhism in Sri Lanka on many occasions, and also has come to our aid in numerous other ways. The humanitarian tragedy in Myanmar is worse than the tsunami calamity in Sri Lankna.

Red Lotus is a Buddhist International Humanitarian Organisation formed in 2005 in the post tsunami period to function in parallel with Red Cross and Red Crescent focussing on Asian countries such as Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Taiwan etc.

The Red Lotus organisation is also closely associated with the senior personnel of the Dharmawijaya Padanama ,and the formation of this international organisation has been pioneered by leading Buddhist philanthrophists.

SPUR attached a copy of the appeal letter from Red Lotus with its press release. Donors may also contact them directly or donate in Colombo. SPUR, NSW will issue receipts for all cash received to its account, and will thereafter remit the collected funds en-bloc to Red Lotus who are at this very moment arranging humanitarian aid and services in Colombo. We will also regularly update and circulate the donor list.

We gratefully accept your generous donation at the time of this great tragedy in Myanmar, and we request every Sri Lankan family to donate at least $20 - more is welcome.

A full donors list will be sent to Red Lotus.
